Year of the DragonThe Year of the Dragon, as per the Chinese zodiac, is a symbol of power, strength, and good fortune. This mythical creature is the only mythical animal in the Chinese zodiac, embodying characteristics of dominance and ambition.
In Chinese culture, dragons are revered for their auspicious qualities. People born in the Year of the Dragon are believed to inherit these traits. They are often seen as charismatic, courageous, and full of vitality. The dragon is associated with the element of wood, further emphasizing growth, renewal, and a strong connection to nature. Each Chinese zodiac year is also linked to one of the five elements, and the Year of the Dragon cycles through Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. This adds an additional layer of symbolism and personality traits to individuals born in different Dragon years. The Year of the Dragon is celebrated with grandeur and festivity. Dragon dances, parades, and cultural events mark the occasion, bringing communities together to usher in good fortune and prosperity. It's a time for reflection, setting goals, and embracing the dynamic energy associated with the dragon. In popular culture, dragons are often depicted as guardians of treasure and bringers of good luck. Their presence in myths and legends across various cultures further emphasizes their universal significance. For those born in the Year of the Dragon, it is considered an auspicious time for major life events such as marriage and starting a family. The dragon's symbolism is deeply ingrained in Chinese folklore, and its association with success and fulfillment continues to resonate in modern times. Whether in ancient traditions or contemporary celebrations, the Year of the Dragon is a symbol of strength, vitality, and the promise of auspicious beginnings. It captivates the imagination and invites individuals to embrace the qualities of this mythical creature as they navigate the journey of the Chinese zodiac.

'On the way', children book by Amy WuOne of my students, Amy, recently published a children's book about her amazing travel experiences through KDP Publishing. This story was written based on her experiences on a motorcycle trip to Tibet with her father. You can read the story as if you were looking at an album after a trip and talking about past memories. I ordered this book through Amazon. Above all, it is touching to see one of my students become an author, achieve her dream as her first author, and move forward into the world. This book arrived home today. Dreams are invisible to the eye, but if you dream and work hard to achieve them, they will arrive today and become reality right before your eyes, as if you can physically touch them. I want my students to be able to publish their books like this and actually touch and see their books. Because dreaming is truly the most precious experience in life. I remember when I first met Amy in 2022. She showed me her calligraphy, which she had written herself. Her handwriting was very beautiful and mysterious. I told her that her handwriting itself was a work of art, and she told me that her father had said the same thing. And she continued to paint with passion. I believe that the fruits of her ceaseless efforts and hard work are contained in this book. And she gave me a precious gift before the book was published. It was a small scroll with his own handwriting. As an artist, creating and exhibiting work is rewarding and wonderful, but I find it most rewarding to see my students achieve, upgrade, and inch closer to their dreams. In this life, there is excitement and anticipation every day. The more students there are, the more excited I become, like someone who has bought a lot of lottery tickets. I never know where i will win or what good news i will receive. And achievements come together and arrive as good news. Just like Amy's book I received today. Today was my child's piano recital. Her piano teacher brings her students together every year to create great opportunities like this. Looking at my daughter's back, I realized the importance of a stage where children can challenge themselves and dream. And I think I want to become a teacher who creates many stages like this.
Children's Storybook Series: Volume 1, Rainy Day by Celina KimThis story is the first volume in a series of children's books created with children and was created by 7-year-old Selina Kim. As an artist and children's book writer, I held a book-making camp with children last summer. Through bookmaking, I was deeply moved by children's pure and beautiful world without limitations. And from then on, I decided to publish children's books that children create themselves. This book is the first book made by my daughter, 7-year-old Selina Kim. It contains a child's desire to go out on a rainy day, memories of playing happily despite the rain, and a beautiful wish that the rain would stop and play more. Later, when it rains so hard that she can no longer play, she gives up and decides to make cookies with her mom. Through her story, I was moved by the imagination, creativity, and positive mindset of children who can have fun imagining and playing anytime, anywhere. This book is for all children who feel this way. I will continue to work with children to inform them about their world.
2024 NASA Student Art Contest: Student artworks by Cindy, Miro and SophiaAmong the student paintings that participated in the 2024 NASA Student Art Contest, we are sharing the works currently featured in the flickr gallery. The painting above is a work by Cindy, with the Earth in the background, expressing the feeling of looking at the Earth from space. This mixed media work, which expresses dots in outer space in cubic shapes, stands out for its novel ideas. The picture above is a picture of Miro, expressing a 7-year-old child's appreciation of the cute and clear universe. The idea of aliens gathering in outer space and having a space dance party is truly amazing. The work above is by Sophia, and she drew herself looking at the Earth from the moon. I also have an amazing vision that in the future, we will be able to stand on the moon and look at the Earth without a spacesuit. This competition was a great opportunity for students to understand outer space and actually draw planets, spaceships, space suits, and astronauts. Through this competition, I am able to confirm the endless, limitless imagination and beautiful minds of children.
Review of Connecting the DOTS, 2024 NASA Student Art Contest."Connecting the DOTS," the 2024 NASA Student Art Contest, showcases a remarkable fusion of artistic expression and scientific curiosity. The entries vividly depict the intersection of art and space exploration, offering a captivating visual narrative that transcends conventional boundaries. The amalgamation of creativity and scientific precision is evident in each submission, reflecting the entrants' profound understanding of space and its mysteries. The artworks masterfully communicate the essence of NASA's mission, highlighting the interconnectedness of celestial phenomena. From cosmic landscapes to futuristic spacecraft, the pieces not only celebrate the beauty of the cosmos but also emphasize the importance of scientific inquiry and innovation. The contest successfully cultivates a space where artistic imagination converges with scientific exploration, fostering a new generation of space enthusiasts. The jury faces a daunting task in selecting winners, given the high caliber of entries. "Connecting the DOTS" not only serves as a platform for artistic expression but also as a testament to the enduring human fascination with the cosmos. It is a testament to the boundless possibilities when art and science collaborate, inspiring both participants and spectators alike to dream beyond the stars. Unfortunately, this competition, which is so educationally meaningful to students, will end on the 31st of this month. This competition is held at the same time every year. I registered with my child's drawing. I think it would be good because it also comes with a certification as shown below. https://artcontest.larc.nasa.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/82/2023/11/2024_NASA_STUDENT_ART_CERTIFICATE.pdf My students also participated in this competition. In short, I think it was a meaningful time where I was able to think and draw about outer space. After submitting a picture, you can check the picture you registered in the gallery after a certain period of time. It will be open for 31 days from December 1st, that is, one month, and we will be recruiting works, so you need to pay close attention to the deadline. If you, as a teacher, want to upload several students' works at once, you must also upload a document containing parental confirmation. You can only post one per person.
The application process and required information is very simple. It is a wonderful competition that stands out for its simple procedures and systematic management. |
