Riskweather was not a project that started with a grand name or huge capital from the beginning.
It all started with a simple but sharp question.
"What if ordinary investors could intuitively read the flow of risk in the complex and uncertain financial market?"

This idea was first ignited by Professor Youngshin Kim, who teaches financial mathematics at the Department of Business Administration at Stony Brook University.

gradually began to take shape with the addition of the team members' skills and visual sense.

​🎨 Small innovations starting with icons

What got me involved in this project was my role as an artist who was in charge of the initial icon design for Riskweather.

The task of reinterpreting the rigid and complex concept of finance into friendly symbols such as sunshine, clouds, lightning, storms, and volcanoes so that anyone can easily understand it had a meaning beyond simple graphics.

These icons became a language that instantly conveyed the intensity and direction of risk to investors, and soon became a core element that visually symbolized Riskweather's philosophy and approach itself.

Small and quiet beginnings as a startup

At that time, Riskweather was a startup that started from a small idea.
The budget was not large, and it was not well known to the world.
But one thing was clear.
“Let’s make the invisible visible.”

And let’s make it actually helpful for someone’s decision.

Professor Kim Young-shin’s mathematical insight, the developers’ technical know-how,
and the visual interpretation that I was in charge of,
were combined to build up the moments when the idea became reality one by one.

​And when it started helping someone,
over time, as RiskWeather was tested in real markets,
and the AI-predicted risk signals started to coincide exactly with actual stock price declines,
we realized,
“This is not just an experiment anymore.”
The three major declines predicted by RiskWeather
had a big impact on someone’s decision-making in volatile markets,
and the results led to trust beyond the numbers.

​Ideas always start small

no matter how small and insignificant it may seem,

​My husband showed me a graph showing that his stock market risk prediction program, RiskWeather, warned me three times about the recent stock market crash. I don't invest in stocks and I don't enjoy it, but I like this program that warns me about the risks of stocks and investments. There are people around me who actually lost all their money because of stock investments. That's why I think programs like RiskWeather should be developed and promoted more.

​Jinmoon Park, CEO, an expert in Korea's financial risk management and investment analysis, has decided to support Girin Instruments' booth costs for the outdoor art show to be held at Gallery North in 2024.

CEO Park is not only interested in finance, mathematics, and economics, but he is also an art enthusiast who is interested in art, including photography. Also, when you look at his photos, you realize that he too is at a level where he can be called an artist.

I will be participating in this year's outdoor show under the name of Girin Instruments, just like last year. I plan to set up a company booth, which is a more advanced form of the existing table, to further promote my work and company.

I had to watch one of my closest friends and family members suffer through poor investment in stocks. And my husband and I constantly talked about and worried about these cases. If you view the stock market as a mere place for speculation, overlook its risks, or perceive it as a place where luck plays a role, you will see major failures in the stock market. My husband did research to reduce this risk. I also discovered that we need to study about these risks from a young age. I decided to create a book that would introduce and educate children about the risks in the stock market and the two sides of investing in a fun way.

​The character in the first book created with this intention was 'Sunny Savings', a pilot character and predecessor to the actual Risk Weather Program.

I published this book at the end of December last year. And then I discovered that this book was starting to become known to people.

It is currently ranked 11th in the best-selling children's computer software section of the Amazon Store. ​I am grateful that this happened naturally without any marketing tools or help.

​It's a new experience to discover that a book I've created sparks this interest.

Riskweather is designed to reduce difficulty and intuitively understand the risk information of financial products by displaying them in weather symbols. Risk information is not positive or negative state, but a description of the phenomenon, and also a reference for decision making. Weather is also not an indicator of positive/negative or decision-making (Do/Don't), but it has a symbol that intuitively represents the phenomenon. So we considered wheater suitable for the concept of the service.
