Grand opening, Girin Instruments!
We have been busy preparing to found the established Girin Institute since September. The related content is summarized and posted on my blog, Girin Institute, and the info menu's Art & Data Analysis section. For those of you who are interested in setting up a company or need motivation, I'm posting it little by little. And it is important because these records themselves will become the history of the company.
The original name, Girin Institute, was changed to Girin Instruments after consulting with accountants and lawyers. If the name contains "Institute", we must prove ourselves from the educational institution. However, since our direction is that education is not the main focus and focuses on software development & consulting, we decided to change the company's name from Girin institute to Girin instruments.
The contents of the company are mainly finance and created an art department. It is to consider art selling and future NFT business. After consulting with a legal advisory firm with 30 years of experience, we finally got the final approval and received the corporation book, as shown below. Papers in the form of awards such as a degree certificate and a seal are included.
In the future, we will open a business account, information such as a tax ID is required.

Art in financial field
Every object in the world has its color. As discussed in the previous post, even in colorless and odorless data, a color symbolizes the data. So is the financial market. Just as we stop at a red light at a traffic light and cross over to a green one, color in the stock market is a kind of rule and helps us understand the meaning of data at a glance. When investors check their stock status, the first thing they do is check whether it is red or green, and then cry and laugh.
While working on a design to visualize financial market data, I recently had an opportunity to compare US charts with Korean charts. Interestingly, each culture and location is different, so the color symbolized is also different. The colors of the US and South Korean stock markets are opposite. First, in the Korean stock market, red is the color for rising stock prices and blue is for falling stocks, but the opposite is true for US stocks. An uptrend is green and a fall is red.
In western countries, it is said that blue or green has had a good meaning for a long time. However, in the East, for example, in China and Japan, red was preferred because it symbolizes a powerful and dynamic figure such as passion, challenge, and good fortune.
Since Korea is also a country in the East, the stock price is rising in red. Red color tends to excite and tense people, so it is more suitable to indicate an upward index. At the same time, blue means to watch the market calmly and rationally and was applied to consider the psychological action of showing a low index. For example, in Korea, when a lot of red appears on the stock situation monitor, it is said that the stock market is colored with autumn leaves. However, in Western countries, including the United States, it is a bloody day. Data visualization by R programming Occasionally I imagine what if it would be like to come to a world without art. Once all the colors of the world will disappear. Even when I wake up and look at the sky, the whole world looks achromatic. I can't feel the brilliant colors of autumn like oranges, reds, and yellows. The image of the season given by color was also dismissed. Decorations and patterns were commonly seen when wearing clothes or eating meals might go out of sight. Living in a world, people will gradually feel it. In what ways can do emotions fade away as a vapor? Even though I only imagined that beauty would vanish for a while, it was just dull and frustrating. There is a real-world where art doesn't seem to work. It is a world of data made up of numbers, symbols, and letters. Data is measured by what is useful and what it means, not by how beautiful it is or evokes emotions. According to the development of the Internet and related new technologies, a lot of data is accumulated on the web. Data Analysis technology using such big data is also continuously updated. There is fierce competition within it. In particular, the stock data has not only an invisible flow but is also valuable for analysis as it is essential data closely related to the market. These data were previously only understood, analyzed, and handled by relevant experts. It was the same situation just as in the Middle Ages, some monks, clergy could read and interpret Bibles in Latin and made them available. However, the world is changing rapidly, and now the time has come for the public to look at open data, analyze it, predict a graph, and come up with a prescription. Various analysis contents are overflowing just by looking at related YouTube. In the first paragraph, I tried to draw a world without art. What role can art play in a world of data overflowing with numbers and formulas? However, even data whose color, shape, and composition do not seem important evokes various emotions when the data is expressed in a graph, and the meaning is given. Stock data does. When we look at charts that go up or down, we get mixed up. Sometimes investors cry and laugh at the green-red color. Whether the graph soars up like a mountain or moves flat, everyone pays attention to its shape. Artists can play the role of visually and more usefully showing data analyzed based on these scientific and mathematical grounds. Artists select colors more sensitively than anyone else and explore the meaning of shapes and compositions. They know the power of color. I am well aware that every time the saturation and brightness of each color change, it can evoke certain emotions and even expand into the spiritual realm, touching people's hearts, making them feel moved and energized. So I hope that artists can participate as a coworker in the data analysis a lot. It would be great if you could deliver comfort, energy, and sometimes even a little bit of alertness to the stock data, which is fraught with so many risks. I am currently studying R Programming, R Studio, a program that statistically analyzes stock data to visualize stock data. In the future, related contents will be posted on this blog sequentially. How to design Website In 2000, there was a boom in dot-com companies in Korea. The dot-com bubble is a bubble economy phenomenon that spanned from 1995 to 2000 when the stock market in industrialized countries saw a rapid rise in equity prices as the Internet-related sector grew. Korea was no exception. Companies competed to create and manage Internet-based companies, and most investors poured all the money into dot-com companies to the extent that rumors circulated that anyone with a website would receive investment. As I recall, there was a trend in the market for training and hiring web designers and webmasters to create and manage websites for companies like this. In such an atmosphere, I studied medical informatics and obtained a master's degree. And I thought it would be helpful for my work, so I enrolled in a computer art school in Jongno-gu, Seoul. After completing the web design and webmaster courses, I got the relevant professional certification. It was a time full of ambition and vision. Looking back, I had a tight and tiring day with work and studied simultaneously, but it was an excellent decision because the technology still feeds me. And after getting a license, I planned and designed several websites. It was fun to work with programmers to create an interface and see the site being serviced and operated. However, after I left for Korea in 2006, I could not actively do this work. In other words, I lived a life close to nature-oriented. By the way, I recently started making a website again. Twenty years ago, creating a website required a lot of manpower, time, and cost. Because it was a team-based project, the team had to design, code, and get feedback by themselves as their roles. But 20 years later, the world has changed very quickly. At that time, website planning and development were the domain of related experts, but now anyone can create a website that suits their taste. Therefore, cost and time have been saved, so many more diverse and free-form sites appears. Most of all they are not always in the same frame and pattern as before. Creating a website has also given me endless fun recently. Below is a website I recently worked on. Opposite to in the past, the programming steps were minimized, and it was good to be able to focus on the content of the site instead. Above all, it is good to be able to respect the taste of the client. In the past, several cases such as 1, 2, and 3 samples were made according to the needs, and the client chose the best one. But recently, the designer can communicate and negotiate with customer directly and it is also easy to fix it according to their needs and imagination. Therefore, it doesn't need to prepare some samples to present or choose it. For example, the recently created website minimized the images and icons because the client is a minimalist. Also, because it emphasized modern and popular trends, we gave more animation elements. In the past, the meaning and philosophy of images that inserted to the site was not so important. That was the reason that most website has similar form and patterns. The webdesigner made a separate their image library and used the images in it. However, nowadays we can find the trend that the site's symbolism appears apparently even when only the homepage is opened. In other words, in my case, I invested more time and effort when creating the images used because I wanted to add more artistic elements. The website will re-publish its address when the domain registration is completed and development is 100 % finished. This opportunity made me realize that every experience is worthwhile. Once the website's design is completed, the domain must be registered and registered in the search engine. And you have to get feedback and make corrections constantly. I hope that a record of this series of processes can be of little help. How to create brand image and initial design In China, there is a famous four proverbs called 孟母三遷. The word comes from Mencius's mother moved three times to raise her young son, Mencius, properly. Mencius's mother lived near the cemetery for the first time with Mencius. When she often saw a young Mencius burial and imitated it, Mencius's mother moved her house near the market, but her son imitated it. It is said that Mencius's mother was able to study Mencius here only after moving her home to the school districts. It means that parents should do everything they can to educate their children. I am well aware of the importance of the environment, as the above points out. Maybe that's why, since I've lived in New York for a long time, full of energy, I feel like I need to start a business. In that sense, we try to create and operate a company. I am pleased to document the process of starting a business here. Seeing this experience, I think it would be good for anyone to have courage. And I hope that these records will be of little help to anyone who takes on a new challenge. In that sense, I plan to keep a record through this blog as if I was writing a work log. The most important thing when creating a company for the first time is the name. The name has many meanings. It carries many invisible energies, such as identities, memories, values, differences, attributes, etc. Therefore, it is complicated to decide on a name when creating a company for the first time. An example is Amazon. Amazon was built with the meaning of pursuing brand values that are exotic and different, like the rainforest Amazon. It's a unique and exciting name. We like that meaning name too. So, the legendary animal called "girin" was adopted as its name. Korea has a long historical record of over 5,000 years. This animal was introduced in one of the artifacts unearthed a long time ago. It is one of the works in a country called Silla, Korea, 1500 years ago. This girin, looks vivid as if it jumped out of the sky at any moment, appeared with painting on the bark of a birch tree, and after a long time of travel, it discovered in the world of modern people. The girin is an imaginary animal. Therefore, this girin is different from the African giraffes and horse. In the past, people believed that a saint would appear riding this animal and save humankind. Perhaps such a legend exists in any country. In a situation where civilization or technology was not as developed as it is recent, people had spreaded their imaginations in search of what their hearts can depend on against unpredictable events such as natural disasters. In a way, I think that modern development may have originated from such a same mind. For example, in a dire situation that cannot be predicted every minute in the stock market, experts still try to anticipate and prepare somehow. Occasionally, the image of a cow or a swan is used to unleash the imagination. There is no difference between past and present. Institute is attached to girin, and I set the entire initial to G&I and made the initial mark by working with the illustrator. ![]() It was easy to make because we communicated enough and shared stories when making the initial mark. Then the result will be satisfactory enough. Communication seems to be the most crucial item in design. Although this logo is not an official logo, it can be applied to presentations or future animation work. And below is the official logo of the Girin Institute, which was briefly introduced in the previous post. (go to previous post) The Girin Institute website is currently under construction as follows. The production process is also introduced in the info menu on my website. The design of the intro image for the first screen of the company website was written with a lot of thought. Below is a description of the image. Go to related article ! When the overall image work is completed, the results will be uploaded gradually and the production process will be opened. Amazon, which is now a giant, started out as a shabby office in its early days. What is the power that makes a company? Without even a small attempt like this, it would seem like an unknown world. I hope everyone plant a small seed of hope for the future. |
