 "Happy Memorial Day" is not the most appropriate expression to use. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and honor for those who have died while serving in the armed forces of the United States. It is a solemn occasion meant to commemorate the sacrifices made by servicemen and servicewomen.


Memorial Day holds a special place in my heart, as it reminds me of the deep appreciation I have for the soldiers who selflessly gave their lives during the War. Having lived in Korea, I was exposed to the stories and the immense gratitude the nation felt toward these brave individuals. Even as an immigrant in the United States, Memorial Day continues to be a day of reflection and reminder, where I can't help but acknowledge the sacrifices made by soldiers and their impact on our lives. This year, I commemorated this day with acquaintances, and the experience further reinforced my gratitude.

During my time in Korea, the tales of the Korean War were always present. The sacrifices made by soldiers for their country were deeply ingrained in the collective memory of the Korean people. The gratitude I felt towards these fallen heroes was profound and everlasting. Their unwavering dedication and ultimate sacrifice to protect their homeland left an indelible mark on me, instilling in me a profound respect for the life of a soldier.

As an immigrant to the United States, my perspective on Memorial Day has evolved, blending my experiences from both countries. In America, Memorial Day is unique—a day to honor and remember those who have given their lives while serving in the U.S. military. It's a time when the nation comes together to commemorate the bravery and sacrifices of these courageous individuals.

This year, I had the privilege of celebrating Memorial Day with acquaintances, a diverse group representing the melting pot of the United States. The spirit of unity and gratitude was palpable as we gathered to honor the fallen soldiers. We shared stories, laughter, and, most importantly, a feast transcending borders. The opportunity to indulge in delicious food and the best coffee in the world, courtesy of a Romanian immigrant family, beautifully symbolized the multicultural tapestry that the United States embraces.

As we sat together, enjoying the moment, I couldn't help but reflect on the profound significance of the day. It was a testament to the sacrifices made by soldiers in Korea and the United States that we could revel in such joyous times. The freedom and happiness we experienced that day were made possible by the brave souls who fought for our nations, protecting the values we hold dear.

In my heart, gratitude surged for those who dedicated their lives to preserving our cherished liberties. Their sacrifice ensured we could pursue our dreams, build friendships, and celebrate life. Through their unwavering commitment and selflessness, we can enjoy the freedom to gather, share, and experience the happiness that Memorial Day represents.

 Visiting the Animal Rescue Center on a sunny weekend was a delightful experience. The time spent caring for guinea pigs has fostered a deep love and reverence for small animals within me. It has also ignited a desire to share the preciousness and importance of nature with children, including my own.

Upon arriving at the animal center, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The facility was well-maintained, clean, and organized, reflecting the dedication and care of the staff. They were clearly busy attending to the needs of the animals, but their love and compassion shone through in every interaction.

It was disheartening to learn that many animals in the center had lost their owners and were now living in a state of helplessness. Despite the well-equipped facilities and dedicated staff, the small animals seemed quiet and sad. This experience highlighted the crucial role that caring and loving owners play in the lives of these animals.

Reflecting on this, I decided that if I choose to have more animals in the future, I will adopt them through a shelter rather than purchasing them from a shop. This decision stems from the realization that these animals deserve a second chance at a loving home. We can provide them the care, attention, and love they need to thrive by adopting.

Not only will this decision benefit the animals, but it will also serve as an important experience for both myself and my child. By adopting an animal from a shelter, we will learn about the significance of responsible pet ownership, the importance of providing a nurturing environment, and the joy of rescuing an animal in need.

Furthermore, this experience will enable us to witness firsthand the positive impact we can have on the lives of these animals. It will instill a sense of empathy, compassion, and respect for nature in my child, fostering a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of all living beings.

By sharing this journey with my child, I hope to pass on the values of kindness, empathy, and responsibility toward animals. Together, we can create a nurturing environment for the adopted animals and our family, cultivating a lifelong love and reverence for the natural world.

 ​Near the animal center is another wonderful place called the ecological park. This park serves as an ecological experience center, offering indoor and outdoor areas where children can observe and learn about various animals. Free admission is truly remarkable, as it allows people from all walks of life to enjoy and benefit from this educational opportunity.

The well-maintained facilities immediately struck us as we entered the park. The park staff had clearly put a lot of effort into creating a welcoming and informative environment. They were stationed throughout the park, ready to assist visitors with any questions or difficulties they may have encountered.

The outdoor section of the park provided ample space for children to roam and explore. During our visit, we were blessed with exceptionally clear skies and perfect weather, which enhanced our experience even more. Walking along the well-marked trails, we encountered various habitats and ecosystems carefully designed to mimic the animals' natural environments.

We had the opportunity to observe a diverse range of animals, from small birds to larger mammals. The park had thoughtfully placed informative signs and displays near each exhibit, offering detailed information about the species, their behaviors, and their importance within the ecosystem. This allowed us to learn about the animals' habits and better understand their role in the natural world.

Additionally, the indoor section of the ecological park offered a range of educational activities and exhibits. The indoor facilities were well-equipped and maintained, creating a comfortable and cozy learning environment.

Through our interactions with nature at the ecological park, we gained valuable insights into the delicate balance of ecosystems and the importance of preserving biodiversity. The experience deepened our appreciation for the natural world and instilled a sense of responsibility toward environmental conservation.

As we left the park, we couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to visit such a well-designed and thoughtfully maintained ecological experience center. The fact that it was funded through taxes reinforced our belief that our contributions were being put to good use, enriching the lives of children and fostering a love and understanding of nature.

With its clear skies and favorable weather, this visit during the last week of May allowed us to immerse ourselves in the natural world's wonders fully. It provided us with many experiences and interactions that will forever remain cherished memories, leaving a lasting impression on children and adults alike.

 A Day at the Animal Rescue Center: A Haven of Warmth, Passion, and Hope


Today, I enjoyed visiting the Animal Rescue Center near my neighborhood, accompanied by a playhouse lovingly crafted by my students. This center, primarily focused on rescuing and rehabilitating cats and dogs, is more than just a shelter—it is a sanctuary of compassion, manned by warm-hearted experts who share an unwavering love for animals. As I stepped through the doors, I was immediately enveloped in the warmth and passion emanating from the dedicated staff and the precious animals they cared for.

The center serves as a refuge for cats and dogs who have faced various hardships, offering them a second chance at a fulfilling life. Witnessing these animals roam freely in a safe and nurturing environment was heartwarming. Each furry resident seemed to have a unique story, a tale of resilience and hope that the center's staff diligently worked to rewrite.

In one corner of the center stood the playhouse constructed by my students—a testament to the power of collaboration and creativity. The animals eagerly explored this new addition, their tails wagging and their purrs resonating with sheer delight. The playhouse provided a physical space for them to frolic and play and a symbol of the kindness and thoughtfulness that went into its creation.
