Wet Paint Festival - GallerynorthToday is the first day of the Wet Paint Festival. This event is hosted by local gallery Gallery North. This is an event where artists gather in a historically beautiful location in the area to paint outdoors and then exhibit them. This year's event centers around East Settucket's historic Tyler Homestead. All you have to do is find a composition you like, set up an outdoor easel, and draw in a place with well-groomed grass, like a golf course. Today I didn't have time to draw, so I didn't see many other artists' paintings. Tomorrow I will have more time and go look at paintings. When I was attending school in Korea, I used to draw pictures outdoors. I mainly visited old palaces and painted there. I often received awards at competitions. However, since then, I haven't been able to paint outdoors. This festival is the first time I am painting outdoors as an artist, and I'm drawing with great interest. Since I mainly drew pictures of dreams or imagined worlds, I did not have time to observe objects in the world, but I was seized with a desire to use this opportunity to draw all the beautiful landmarks in the region. I decided to draw the front view of the Tyler Homestead. For some reason, I felt as if this old, beautiful house was asking me to draw it. First, I set up the small picnic table I had prepared for four people. I put the ingredients I brought on this table, and the child who attended and the student taking care of the child, Yilin, sat together. We briefly ate bagels at this table during lunch time. I think I did well to get a table. This table had an umbrella, which was great for blocking the strong sunlight. Artists with children, like me, will be able to attend this festival without any burden. There was a free event for children nearby, and there was a corner where children were shown owls and allowed to draw pictures. Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown shows owls. Through this event, I realized how grateful I am for the local community. It was a good time for me to think about what I should do in the future as an artist in the community. I decided to draw Tyler Homestead in a sitting position because my back hurt. Since my viewpoint was one level lower, I decided to draw in detail focusing on the buildings rather than the lawn and trees. First I sketched the Tyler Homestead. This festival lasts for 6 hours and there are events such as tours and concerts in between, but I only had 4 hours to spare. I'm always short on time like this. So I just did my best to draw. There were two other great artists who chose the same view as me. Tomorrow I will introduce you to these two amazing artists. When you work with paintings, you meet a lot of angels. Thank you to the person who took and sent me some great photos today.
