When taking over an existing program, it's a good idea to ask lots of questions and get the answers you need. To get off to a good start on your first day of school, it's helpful to make a list of useful questions. - Design Your Own Path: “But the teacher always did better than this. “You will hear it throughout the first year following another beloved theater teacher. Theater is a personal experience for students, and theater teachers are privileged to nurture, challenge and inspire students through artistic growth. Whether your children like you or not, remember that you are an adult and an educator. - In middle and high schools, theater is not a place to nurture professionals. It is about nurturing children and appreciating an art form they can engage with for the rest of their lives. The more you enjoy the fun, richness and energy, the more likely you are to continue engaging as you mature. - Watch plays and great movies whenever possible. Teach them to be discerning critics. - Theater is a rich and varied thing. Across time and space, diverse theatrical traditions represent their cultures, challenge our conventions and priorities, and motivate people to social action and change. - Play has the power to move the heart. There are problems in the world and right in our backyards that can be brought to light through drama. Whether it's bullying, domestic violence, environmental protection, teen suicide, or many other issues affecting students, there are plays that can help address these issues and build coping skills and resilience. - Theater skills can be applied to all disciplines by applying a kinesthetic approach to core subject areas. - Above all, the basis of theater is theater literature. What drives the theater world is the playwright's yeong, the study of the meaning of words and how they can be brought to life. - As a teacher, you must consider and respect all differences regardless of personal feelings. - It is important to create an atmosphere of psychological safety and acceptance so that students can feel comfortable talking about their cultural heritage.
