New challenge for making small picture! At this outdoor art show, we plan to sell watercolor postcards that we have prepared from time to time. I plan to capture as much of Long Island's beauty as possible on a small piece of paper. There are several dimensions through which the joy of small paintings manifests, each contributing to their unique appeal. Small paintings frequently encapsulate a concentrated emotional resonance and narrative density. The limited space requires the artist to convey their message or evoke a particular emotion with economy and precision. This distilled expression can be incredibly potent, providing viewers with a rich and impactful experience despite—or perhaps because of—the painting's modest size. It is a pleasure to capture the beauty of nature on paper as small as 4 inches by 6 inches. However, if your handmade post cards absorb water and become warped or misshapen, you may have trouble selling them. So I need to minimize water and make mistakes as much as possible. This kind of work is nerve-wracking, but I plan to make it into a new product for this out show. For reference, below is the watercolor postcard paper I purchased from Amazon. I drew with the paper below, and the coloring turned out better than I expected. But for sale, it would be better if it came with an envelope. Below is the watercolor postcard provided with the envelope. Drawing not only brings people joy, but it also helps them feel a great sense of accomplishment. In the case of paintings, you can complete your work within a few hours if you put your mind to it. It brings great joy to see one's concentration and effort come to fruition. In this sense, if you consistently draw small postcard-sized pictures every day, it will be very helpful in improving your drawing skills. I have been using this method recently with my students.
