My Portfolio Week 3.

The third day of My Portfolio Week.

  Today is the third day of My Portfolio Day. The theme is about female energy.

  YOU MIGHT THINK OF THIS PICTURE WHENEVER YOU FEEL TIRED, DEPRESSED, AND EMPTY IN THE SPLENDID LIVES OF STARS AND PEOPLE SHOWN 24 HOURS A DAY ON INSTAGRAM OR THE MEDIA. DO YOU KNOW THAT BEHIND THE SPLENDOR, THERE IS A HIDDEN PAIN. HAVE YOU EVER FELT DEPRESSED AFTER THINKING THAT THE VISIBLE IS ALL ON SOCIAL MEDIA? 

 I would like to see more works that make the invisible visible, like the French painter, Jacques Blanchard who painted " Saint family (Sainte Famille)" in 1631. 

 And I hope that there will be shown more mature people who know the true meaning and attitude of life to take care of themselves, surroundings, and communities in our society.

 In reality, it is tough to console someone. How many people in the world can genuinely comfort that person at the level of their situation? And as life gets busier, these messages of warm comfort and love seem to disappear more and more.

 Once I exhibited some paintings about a singing woman at Huntington Art Council. The woman in this picture is singing with her eyes closed. Nearby her, many beautiful flowers blossom endemically. Where women can dream and sing to their heart's content, the place I live in now. But other women in the world are deprived of even this ordinary happiness. On the contrary, they have gone back in time and sadly locked up in the past. I sincerely hope that the time will come when they will be able to laugh, sing, enjoy art, study, and dance again freely.

  Does Justice for children exist? More and anything, the Justice that should be existed for the weak is also judged only by adults from their perspective. Nobody ever apologizes to the vulnerable, such as children. Yes, the strong know that there is no need to apologize to the poor. They are clever. They only care according to their interests.

 Meanwhile, the socially underprivileged are increasingly marginalized. They can't afford defense by themselves. The child is frequently ignored from main political topics.

Most regulations are also made to protect the benefits of the strong. When they should take responsibility, they always say that "We did as following the rules." No words to express sorry. They think that it'd be better to keep their position and celebrity than solve the problems. And know doing so, as always, allows them to keep their possessions further and become powerful.

​  On February 28, 1908, 15,000 women workers from the United States marched into New York City to demand shorter hours, higher wages and the right to vote, in honor of the women who died in a fire in a poor workplace. As a result of the fierce demonstration, on February 28, 1909, the first National Women's Day was proclaimed in the United States. In March 8th is official International Women's Day.

  When I draw women and their lives, somehow I feel a certain weight and responsibility. I don't want that the womens of my paintings to be just beautiful, fancy and sexy like other paintings. It seems to be a kind of burden t that I feel because I am a woman myself.

  In this sense, I drew a picture of women's life and work by watercolor pencils. Although the tense of this painting is in the distant past, the frame of labor and responsibility expressed in this painting has not changed significantly from the past or present. There is some kind of stress that every woman will have to successfully work , support family and raise children at the same time. Compared to the stresses and pressures, the expectations of society are higher, and the rights and benefits given are weak. The conflicts and gaps that arise here are making women's lives more and more difficult.

  Above all, we feel that we still have a long way to go when we consider the working environment, quality of life, freedom and rights of women worldwide. Could the next series of pictures of women be more fancy? Or is it just a simple hope?
