Improvisation Exercise: Wow, Open sesame, O.k and Smile Grade Level 7-12 OBJECTIVE: Students will be able to learn tolerance and acceptance of their own choices through the play 'Wow, Open sesame, O.k and Smile', an improvisational situational play using their imagination, motion and words. I. The teacher explains the purpose and process of this game and demonstrates it. Background: Adolescence is a whirlwind of emotions due to hormonal changes. So, we become sensitive to small things and are easily frustrated and hurt by small mistakes. Was my decision right? In these sensitive times, this game says, 'No matter what you choose, it's okay. It is a psychological improvisational role-play that teaches inclusion and acceptance while giving the message, 'Even if you make a wrong choice, it's not your fault'. Two students form a pair. A is the role of God and B is the role of humans. God tells humans to choose two fates. Then show the two fate cards to the human. One is blue and one is red. The human receives the card and exclaims 'Wow'. Because there might be something good in the cards. Lotteries, promotions, things like that. However, this card is an action card. The situation on the card must be expressed in a monodrama. will you accept this? Okay~~ Of course you have to accept it. And even if it doesn't suit you, you laugh. Let's make it together with laughter. A: Choose one of two cards. One is a red card, the other is a blue card. It contains what you need to do. It could be good or it could be bad. But you must choose only one card. B: Shout Wow. (Humans should only use the words set above.) A: Well, then you should shout like Alibaba. 'Be open,' and choose a card. B: (pretending to knock on a huge door) 'Open sesame' (picks up red card) A: So you chose the red card. Doo doo doo doo (open the red card) The red card says: 'Write your name with your head' B: O.k (You have to embrace it. Write your name as naturally and interestingly as possible.) A: You are a wonderful person and a tolerant person who knows how to put himself down in front of others. thank you For giving us big smiles and love. (The student playing the role of god should do his best to give a positive and nice comment at the end, so that the next B will laugh naturally. B: Smile (Calls out the word smile, everyone naturally laughs at this point) II. Students will use their imaginations to create impromptu plays based on the scenarios provided. The student acting as the god will write down the moves he or she wants to see on the red/blue cards. This action will make you laugh. Keep a video recording of these instances. And in some cases, there will be action cards that the opponent simply cannot accept. The teacher must pre-check one student's action card in God's Role before the play. Make sure there's nothing violent, provocative, or uneducational in it that you're concerned about. Behavior cards made by students are recorded on the log sheet and kept. Students get together in groups to vote on which action caused more laughter in the future post-play. Students will use their imaginations to create impromptu plays based on the scenarios provided. Each group will create a situation play based on the scenario above for Wow, Open sesame, O.k and Smile. The team with the most votes in the course of II goes back to the final rehearsal. Reflections: According to the text book, ‘Real-World Theater Education (Rome)’, as artistic individualists, we are all unique. We all excel in drama classes or drama courses. Sometimes talent and creativity actually seem to be linked to high-functioning students struggling with disabilities, including ADHD, ADD, Asperger's Syndrome, or other learning challenges that may qualify them for support services at school. Above all, it is important to create an atmosphere of acceptance and encouragement in the classroom. I was impressed with this content. So I thought I should make a play that could create an atmosphere of encouragement and acceptance of my situation with more laughter and leisure during my adolescence, where I had many scars, frustrations and regrets. So, the impromptu role play created is ‘Wow, Open sesame, O.k and Smile’. I hope that through this play, students can learn that we don't need many words to understand and embrace a situation, and more than anything else, we need a more humorous attitude of mind to accept this situation.
