Congratulations on your acceptance to Imagination at Mills Pond GalleryMy watercolor painting, “Reminiscence,” 24 x 18 inches, was invited to the Imagination Group exhibition at Mills Pond Gallery. This painting was created based on inspiration from the Altamira cave paintings. The Altamira cave paintings have been praised as ‘the pinnacle of universal art’ since their discovery in 1879. In particular, Picasso visited the Altamira caves before painting his bull. Picasso said after seeing the paintings of bison and wild animals painted in the Altamira Cave. “None of us can picture it like this: After Altamira, all is decadence!” 10,000 years ago, humans would have memorized the movements, shapes, sizes, and colors of bulls through deep observation. They remembered the bison they had seen during the day, and then came into the cave and drew them. Looking at the delicate details, such as hair and beard, expressed with thin charcoal, we can guess how meticulous the artist must have been in observation and memory. In particular, their artistry and passion can be felt by using the irregularities of the cave to create three-dimensional drawings as if creating sculptures. In this way, they tried to show, leave behind, and express their existence through paintings. The act of observing means looking at the object closely with patience. This practice of observing and remembering brought the gift of art to mankind. 레퍼런스: https://post.naver.com/viewer/postView.nhnvolumeNo=8529598&memberNo=30942091 Remembering is another art form. What we remember becomes images and creates another world. In this sense, I drew a picture with the theme of “reminiscence.” The bull in this picture represents the coming together of the past and the present. He is crying, remembering the past. The meaning of these tears is joy. Picasso said that today's art declined after Altamira Life, but I believe that the artist's desire to find the authenticity will take us to the universal art of that time. I drew this picture as an opportunity to think about the authenticity and meaning of art.
The painting will be on display at Mills Pond Gallery from July 13 to August 11.
