Congratulations on your acceptance for Little Black Book Exhibition at Mills Pond Gallery

 Mills Pond Gallery is one of my favorite galleries as a member. I like the passion for the art , the attitude, the sincerity, and the open mind in the gallery. I took part in the open call held here and received a message that" Life is" was chosen among my works.

When I receive a message that a work has been selected, I have to organize and send related messages, and I have to frame the work and prepare for a group exhibition.

 ​The selected work this time is a watercolor work of size 11 x 14. The title is Life is.

 ​Below is a statement about this figure I wrote down earlier. The biggest advantage that I feel while blogging is that I can write a statement about the picture while completing the picture. The recorded data will be reused for various purposes in the future.

Once upon a time, while looking at the yard, I noticed a yellow butterfly sitting on a particularly yellow color flower. So are birds. A red bird hovers around a red flower and a yellow bird flies around a yellow flower. Perhaps this is an instinct for survival. In order not to be easily noticed by other predators, they must fly in areas similar to their own color.
  ​The flapping of wings of butterflies and the leisurely flight of birds, which are beautiful to our eyes, may have been one of the struggles for survival. 

  Here is a quote from famous comedy actor, Charlie Chaplin.

Life is tragedy when seen in close-up, but a comedy in long-shot
  ​Charlie Chaplin was born on April 16, 1889, to musical actors Charles Chaplin and Hannah Chaplin. He was short, 165 centimeters, and had lived such as a life like an orphan between his alcoholic father and his mother who was admitted to a psychiatric hospital. It was the only talent he had that made him live even though a miserable childhood, when no one took responsibility for him, cared for him, and loved him. At the age of 8, he entered a theater company and performed on stage, and at the age of 14, he began to attract the attention of the audience by appearing in Jim, Love in London, and Sullock Holmes.
 ​This is a quote he left when he later became a world-famous comedian and started making a name for himself in the world. Perhaps his life was like a dirty gutter, and every day was a series of painful battles for survival. However, looking back later, he could confess that in some ways life itself was a journey that was neither sweet nor bitter.

​Considering his famous sayings, maybe life itself is just living, and the meaning of it may be something we will find out later after we've lived it all. That's why, like the yellow butterfly in my picture, we have to live desperately for the first time. We have to survive all days by flying around in search of yellow flowers, avoiding the eyes of predators. From a distance, the beautiful yellow butterfly perched on a yellow flower may be the result of their being story.

​ Birds only fly in a straight line, so butterflies with irregular cranked or dizzying turns can effectively run away from the bird. Flights that flutter and fly beautifully in our eyes are also a result of survival.

  ​In that sense, I do not unconditionally paint beautiful pictures. A butterfly's wings are also beautiful, but if you look closely, you'll notice that the wings have very similar patterns to the stems of leaves or petals. The interstitial dots are alike in shape to the scars on the leaves. It may be their protective color or some kind of protective instinct.

 But they are beautiful. All we have to do is only for being and living, so why does it  need such a beautiful color and appearance? Is it for reproduction or for an art?. I don't know what butterflies for example think about their way of life. What we know for sure is that at least they won't be depressed, arrogant, disappointed or compared to such a life of their own.

  By the way, I wanted to put one code of survival and beauty in the picture. So this painting of mine is beautiful in some ways and uncomfortable in other ways.

 ​This open call is supposed to open the process of sketching along with storytelling. The photo above was sent as part of my sketch work. When an inspiration comes to mind, in order not to miss the inspiration, I skip the basic work with a pencil and immediately pick up a brush and draw. There are no pencil marks because this drawing was also drawn in that way.
