Give yourself a present! Yesterday, I illustrated an image of a happy elephant as soon as I arrived home from a trip to Boston. I had previously drawn an elephant picture of Learned Helplessness before setting out for Boston. When an elephant has been tied to a stake since a baby, it will struggle to get out of it at the first attempt. Then they keep failing, their feet hurt, and they give up and adopt the limitation. The problem is going after then. A fully grown elephant may break free from thin shackles, but they do not. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free. It calls tied elephant syndrome is that they have already learned helplessness since a baby. It is a metaphorical story often used in psychology to express learned helplessness. I created an image of that learned helplessness and painted its subsequent elephant. It is about a happy elephant that can finally break away from a frame, made by itself. What keeps the elephant from accepting helplessness and making no attempts? Do you live with your own unique identity? Or are you living according to the identity set by others? When I was on a trip, I have ever been seen a variety of radios on decorating shelves. Before the invention of television, the radio was the only channel through which people provided information, alerted people to crises, and comforted and communicated through songs. It's a radio that the whole family sat down to listen to, and it has so many different shapes and colors. So are people. They express their voices in various shapes and colors. I want my paintings to have their own colors and make their own sounds. There is a song I often listen to on the car radio around this month as always. It's a song called Have Yourself a Merry little Christmas by Sam Smith. Have yourself a merry little Christmas Let your heart be light From now on Your troubles will be out of sight Have yourself a merry little Christmas Make the Yule-tide gay From now on Your troubles will be miles away Here we are as in olden days Happy golden days of yore Faithful friends who I dear to us They gather near to us once more Through the years We'll always be together If the Fates allow Hang a shining star upon the highest bough So have yourself a merry little Christmas Have yourself a merry little Christmas So have yourself a merry little Christmas now It is hard to recognize and accept our unique shape and color when we are in the middle of the dark tunnel of life. Whenever I face any difficulties, I am used to looking back with a monologue that It's all because of me. It's my fault and should have done better. Unfortunately, this is the sound of self-reproach. You are tormenting yourself too much. But when you are in a dark tunnel, it is difficult to nurture and maintain bright energy. So life is hard. Strangely, even the people around you become cold when you are in such a dark tunnel. With no one in the world to hold my hand and no one to listen to, it's like being trapped on an island. But the more you are desperate, the more you have to give yourself a gift like the lyrics of a song. In that sense, I completed another illustration. The title is Give Yourself a Gift. I wish I could protect myself from the burnout caused by the prolonged corona crisis and be able to tell myself that everything is OK and everything will be OK in times like these.

Painting and illustration It will rain from tomorrow. Today the weather was warm like spring. I didn't want to miss the warm winter, so I went outside. I happened to catch the beautiful colors of the sky at sunset. It is as if a corner of the sky is burning pink. In this case, the photos make you feel sad. Because I am not a professional photographer, it is tough to express the emotions I felt in the photos. Once, I took a picture of a local Christmas tree. But no matter how many angles I take, I can't capture the feeling of the tree standing in the middle of an empty field with various lights. There was a unique feeling of being lonely and brilliant, but there is a limit to capturing that feeling as it is in a photograph. So I switched to digital and tried to express that emotion. I didn't stop here, I also made a small image with Illustrator. It seems to let you feel the difference between Photoshop and Illustrator. This time, I uploaded a picture of a ballerina in the past. And below is the ballerina I worked with this time as an illustrator. What are the advantages of illustration? You can visually explain from the artist's point of view what cannot be expressed in a photograph. Presenting a problem from a new angle, educating it, or expanding the scope of imagination to arouse interest. In other words, it acts as a bridge between the camera's lens and the artist's mind. I like the fact that it acts as a bridge between the image and the artist's heart to feel it. I often have to create images that express my psychological inner power as an illustrator. Art! , Helping to let go of the need for praise, acceptance and acknowledgment. Competing in society, at work, or at school, you realize how difficult it is to be validated and recognized. If we live with the influence of those around us, being evaluated and conscious of recognition, we will often be burned out without realizing it. What should you do if you find this kind of problem in your life? Above all, if you do not adequately evaluate and acknowledge yourself or accept self-validation, your self-esteem is easily weak. When it happens, you become addicted to being approved and praised by others. In particular, if left unattended in this case, it is easy to become a target of attack by narcissists, sociopaths, and Machiavellianism. In other words, you lose control of your life and become swayed by others. To keep your self-esteem healthy and protect yourself from aggressive and manipulative energy vampires, you must find a way to verify yourself. According to Dr. Karen Hall, validation is the "recognition and acceptance" of someone else's experience. Self-validation is the ability to recognize and acknowledge your own internal experience. It is not about agreeing with someone or accepting their thoughts as your own; taking these thoughts and experiences as valid. The problem arises when self-validation is not possible or is not valued. In other words, if an individual puts the opinion, approval, or recognition of someone else over their feelings, they will need that external, other person's validation on an ongoing basis. Some time ago, I confirmed some didactic factors in the lecture of Professor Kim Kyung-il, a YouTuber in the field of Korean psychology, that it is a significant thing than getting other people's approval. Unfortunately, there is no English version, so here's a summary. In other words, the practical experience for people who are thirsty for the approval and attention of others and cannot protect their self-esteem is to try cultural and artistic activities that are not related to their achievements, such as a hobby. In other words, when you admire yourself through a small achievement step by step, you find your true self-esteem. Generally speaking, a person who is thirsty for the approval of others is dependent on and swayed by the evaluation of others. They may live a life that is not free from the gaze of others. Personally, there is a scene where I recall whenever I am concerned about the gaze or evaluation of others. It is one of Aesop's fables. it's a the Miller, His Son, & the Ass. If we can't concentrate to write our own story and struggle to please others, and we may end up tying the donkey upside down, like a scene in Aesop's fables. Professor Kyung-il Kim's lecture also points this out. However, knowing this fact well, it is not easy to be completely free from the gaze of others. It is because verification or evaluation by others is also one of the crucial proof factors. However, If you lose your self-esteem and have emotional problems, you should be encouraged to deviate from the assessment of others. In this case, art activities are the most helpful. In particular, the act of drawing helps them discover themselves that they did not know and comfort and heal themselves. As you draw, it's a little slow, but you start to admire yourself and praise yourself. Because every time you draw, you can develop little by little and discover a new side of yourself. The poor Miller now set out sadly for home. By trying to please everybody, he had pleased nobody, and lost his Ass besides. Christmas in Korea A recent article said that Korea's Shinsegae Department Store displayed the most beautiful and spectacular Christmas decorations of all time this year. The purpose is to relieve those who are exhausted from Corona. They removed all promotional billboards, and added 400,000 more lights for the most spectacular show. I have been living abroad for a long time, and there is one question that I hear the most frequently in the holiday seasons. Does it mean that Korea also has a Christmas ceremony? that is. Now, many people know about Korea well, so there are fewer questions like that, but in the past, many people thought that there were no Christmas trees in Korean homes. Perhaps they will be surprised if they walk in front of the Shinsegae Department Store in Korea. However, this splendid Christmas was held during the war only 70 years ago. 6 .25 In the midst of the war, in 1951, the military soldier had to commemorate this day by hastily making a Christmas tree during the war. But in the other word, just as the lanterns shine brighter as the darkness deepens, even after the devastating war, Koreans' love and aspirations for Christmas can be seen by looking at the Christmas cards below. Mail to Santa Claus! with Jenny Nyström Today, I went to a nearby post office with my child. My local post office runs a Santa Mailbox for the holiday season. If you send an email to Santa's address in the mailbox below, Santa will reply to your home. For reference, the official address of Santa is as follows: The official U.S. Postal Service address for Santa Claus is 123 Elf Road, North Pole, 88888. If you want to explain to your kids where Santa is coming, visit the site below. Santa's arrival time and phone number are written on it. Install the app below to track Santa's flight in real time. It looks like a GPS is probably attached to Santa's sleigh. It's a free service. We wrote a letter to send a Santa Clause like below. On the way out of sending a letter to Santa, we see a Christmas tree decoration in the middle of the field. Among the paintings of Christmas Santa, I would like to introduce Jenny Eugenia Nyström (June 13 or 15, 1854, Kalmar, Sweden – January 17, 1946, Stockholm), a Swedish female artist. She was a painter and illustrator, primarily known for creating the Swedish image of Jultomte on numerous Christmas cards and magazine covers. The Danish for merry Christmas is “glædelig jul“, whereas in Swedish and Norwegian it is “God Jul“.
Seeing Santa smiling kindly in a faded card warms my heart as if I have returned to my childhood. Below is a well organized site so that you can download Jenny's Christmas card in the form of a PDF file and print it. Click on the picture to go to that site. |
