Bronze award, in Camelback Gallery
Recently, I applied to participate in Camelback Gallery’s Autumn 2021 International Visual Arts Competition. The jury has reviewed and selected the artwork for the online group award exhibition. The selection of artwork was chosen based on the number of entries, theme, originality, technical skill and quality of work. Among the submitted works, my picture below was selected and received the Bronze Award.
This online international visual art exhibition dealt with the theme of autumn. I submitted an image of a sold painting that I worked on in the past. The title of the picture is Books and Flowers. French existentialist writer Albert Camus said that autumn is the second spring when every leaf becomes a flower.
When I was in high school, I was walking down the street one day in the fall, and the rows of trees were sparkling with beautiful light as if I was in a red-orange tunnel. I was so amazed by its beauty. And I was amazed. I paused for a moment and was captured with its beauty. Then suddenly, I burst into tears. It's so beautiful, but it's not forever. Soon it will fall and rustle and be trampled on. But knowing this moment, the trees do their best to create their color. They are not flowers, but they were making beautiful colors like flowers. They seemed to squeeze all the power they knew that was going to lose brilliantly. I received an award for writing this image into a poem. I can't remember the poem now, but I still remember the image I received back then. So when autumn comes, the words of Albert Camus come to mind. We get to know more about why he said that and what it means as we get older. When everything splendid loses its light little by little, we become calm in that lost time. And when everything is gone, I quietly pull out a book and look into myself. The warm autumn sunlight comes in from the window. Autumn seems to be a season that makes you think about beauty and reflect on yourself.
Below is a collection of what I have drawn about autumn so far. Hope you all enjoy a beautiful autumn.

Grand opening, Girin Instruments!
We have been busy preparing to found the established Girin Institute since September. The related content is summarized and posted on my blog, Girin Institute, and the info menu's Art & Data Analysis section. For those of you who are interested in setting up a company or need motivation, I'm posting it little by little. And it is important because these records themselves will become the history of the company.
The original name, Girin Institute, was changed to Girin Instruments after consulting with accountants and lawyers. If the name contains "Institute", we must prove ourselves from the educational institution. However, since our direction is that education is not the main focus and focuses on software development & consulting, we decided to change the company's name from Girin institute to Girin instruments.
The contents of the company are mainly finance and created an art department. It is to consider art selling and future NFT business. After consulting with a legal advisory firm with 30 years of experience, we finally got the final approval and received the corporation book, as shown below. Papers in the form of awards such as a degree certificate and a seal are included.
In the future, we will open a business account, information such as a tax ID is required.
Recent works, Tulip fantasia
I recently completed a digital work about tulips, which is the opposite of the Tulip mania I worked on before. If a tulip maniac focused on human obsession and madness for tulips, the completed Tulip Fantasia is a story about tulips as beauty itself. After completing work with an always dark vibe, I always continued my work with a bright theme again turn by turn. I consider myself a very curious painter. Drawing with a single, repetitive theme is almost torture to me. Instead, as if a signature represents it's attribute, I think that my style of painting is always consistent, whether it is acrylic, watercolor, or digital art with various themes.
Before painting this Tulip Fantasia, I remember visiting the Netherlands for a while living in Germany. The beautiful tulips that bloomed in various colors as if they were marching in Keukenhof, Netherland, always remain in my memory like a happy dream.
Tulips, Keukenhof, Netherland, by Myungja Anna Koh
The flower language of tulips is a confession of love, fascination, and eternal affection. It is like a beautiful crown resting on the head of a charming queen. How did six simple petals come together to create such a lovely shape? It is as if they knew and gathered the most beautiful points. I digitally completed the beauty of these tulips as if walking in a dream garden. The brightness of the light in the middle was adjusted so that the light in between could walk along the beautiful path of the tulips along the line of sight.
After finishing the work, I uploaded it to Fine Art America. This site is helpful because you can see virtually when the work has been applied with a product other than canvas.
I've been to an exhibition by an artist from Africa when I was in Germany before. He displayed all of his works on shopping bags instead of on canvas. When I asked why, and he said that more people carry the shopping bag than a canvas? It was his special concept. As shown in the picture above, if you carry a bag made of my work, your work will be more exposed. That is a great joy for painters.
Below is the mask's style.
Like tulips with the flower language of happiness, I hope that the corona will disappear next year so that we will no longer have to wear a mask.
How artists should respond to scam emailsBehold, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves; therefore be wise as serpents and innocent as doves (Matthew 10:16).
I like the above verses from the Bible. And there are often when this phrase needs to be applied in life.
In particular, artists are isolated due to their professional attribute. They are keenly interested in everyday life and events, but on the other hand, they ultimately builds a wall surround them and pursues the beauty and essence of the matter. For this reason, artists may have possibilities to get lost without knowing how to judge the border between business and fraud when they take their work to the public. When this happens, artists often got a lot of mail that arrives at them and get confused. Some emails contain this. "I want to give the painting as a birthday present for my wife. I saw your work on the Internet, and it's fantastic. I am very interested in your career. I want to buy it. I can't use the card right away because I have to surprise my wife. The delivery company must also use the company I have chosen. Please send your check as soon as possible. " This kind of scam is prevalent among artists communities. You should be careful if you ask for a bill without giving their information correctly. In this case, artists are opening their damage cases on the Internet. If you receive that kind of mail, be sure to search the Internet and judge. And back to my story, I got an email today. As shown below, I am very interested in my work, and I will invite you to my art fair. At first glance, it looks pretty polite and official. There are no typos or grammar flaws in English that prevalent scams have. However, if you receive this type of mail, be sure to type the mail address on the Internet.
Many artists have received unidentifical mail, and some are complaining about damage. These kind of emails are distributed to artists indiscriminately and randomly.
Of course, I can understand that someone may want to try participating in this kind of art fair. If they have a lot of money, and can. However, for most artists, it isn't easy to make a living. And the money they make from selling their work is precious to them. You should be aware of artist scams, as it is possible to lose all this money all at once. I recommend that you first look up the email address internet. There are many examples below. The best solution is unresponsive. It is better not to do it if you think it is excessive and not helpful in your judgment. Artists have to protect themselves.
How can I protect myself and engage in creative activities in the Internet world where countless information abounds? When I get spam, I worry about that
New York Expo Group Exhibition
In 2019, I submitted my artwork New York Art Expo Group Exhibition Artist Open Call. One of the works was selected, and in 2021, the work was finally hung in the form of a group exhibition in a booth of a company.
Painters want their work to be displayed in large-scale exhibition halls such as Artexpo or art fairs in each country. Because such exhibitions are supportive events, advertisements, and international, they have a high chance of exposure to many art lovers worldwide. Because of this great opportunity, competition is fierce, and an individual must pay a huge entry fee to participate in such a competition. In this sense, it is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in participating in international art fairs at relatively low prices through group exhibitions once the works are selected.
When I was working as a medical informatics researcher in Korea, I attended the Bio Expo held annually in Japan with 3d human body model contents developed by our institute. On the other hand, I was excited to install our company's products in the booth, meet with interested buyers, and exchange business cards. The invaluable experience I have gained from that event is consistency. A marketing associate told me the importance. " Investors attending these events don't choose what to invest in with a single attendance. They visit for at least three years and see if the company exists until then. If the company you like still exists and shows something different, we will actively consider investing in it. In the business world, sustainability is fundamental".
Is that just the business area? I think it applies to all areas. Below is a picture of the inside of the exhibition hall. |
