Submit images for the juried exhibition in Mills Pond Gallery.A Sense of Place Long Island - July 15 - August 11, 2023 In the area where I live, you can see the sea no matter which way you drive. In short, it is a long island on both sides, so you can always feel the seagulls and the salty smell of the sea. In particular, watching the sunset at West Meadow Beach, which is a local landmark, is like luck. Seeing the sea shining orange, purple, and yellow is like appreciating a beautiful piece of art. I paint these beautiful landscapes in my spare time. And among these paintings, I selected three paintings that I liked and submitted them to the open call of the local gallery. Nature is so beautiful and wonderful that it is very difficult to spread it all out on paper. However, artists worry about how to capture that brilliant moment and reproduce it on paper or canvas. And it does this non-stop. It may be because he has a desire to catch the flowing beauty of nature and stuff it on paper. You've captured a beautiful sentiment about the challenge and desire that artists often face when trying to capture the beauty of nature on paper or canvas. Nature's brilliance and ever-changing elements can indeed be difficult to reproduce accurately, but it is precisely this challenge that drives artists to express their appreciation and awe for the natural world. Artists have been inspired by nature for centuries, and many have dedicated their lives to capturing its essence through various mediums. Whether it's the vibrant colors of a sunset, the delicate petals of a flower, or the majesty of a mountain range, nature offers an infinite source of inspiration. Artists strive to translate their personal experience and emotional connection with nature onto their chosen medium. The act of capturing nature's beauty on paper or canvas is an ongoing journey for artists. Each attempt brings a new opportunity to explore different techniques, experiment with colors and textures, and refine their skills. The artist's goal is not merely to recreate a scene but to convey the essence, atmosphere, and emotional impact of that particular moment in nature. It's true that nature is vast and ever-changing, making it impossible to capture every detail and nuance. However, artists can focus on specific elements or impressions that resonate with them personally. They might emphasize the interplay of light and shadow, the textures of different surfaces, or the overall mood and atmosphere of a scene. By doing so, artists can create their interpretation of nature's beauty, capturing its essence rather than attempting a perfect replica. The desire to capture and express the flowing beauty of nature on paper or canvas is a testament to the profound impact it has on artists and people alike. Through their art, artists strive to share their appreciation, awe, and love for the natural world, inviting others to experience its wonders in their own unique way. So, while it may be challenging to encapsulate all of nature's beauty on a single piece of paper, the artistic journey of attempting to do so allows artists to explore and communicate their deep connection with the natural world, creating their own interpretations and capturing moments of brilliance along the way.

Exploring for the lightThe painting showcases a panoramic view of a sandy beach extending into the distance. The warm, golden hues of the setting sun dominate the sky, casting a soft, ethereal glow over the entire scene. The radiant sun appears to be slowly descending towards the horizon, painting the sky with streaks of oranges, pinks, and purples.
In the foreground, gentle ripples lap against the shore, leaving behind a mesmerizing play of light and shadow. This work was recently painted on arches paper, a cotton paper as a new attempt. It is currently in progress and will be updated again after completion. On cotton paper, the watercolor paint spreads slowly, giving you plenty of time to decide on the density and contrast. It's like painting on a piece of cloth. On the other hand, it's like drawing on an absorbent pad rather than paper, so it's difficult for artists like me to adapt to improvisation. But watching the watercolor paint go deep into the cotton paper and get absorbed gives a deep feeling, like the sunset in the sky releasing the paint, scattering it across a large canvas of the sky. Student's Artworks by Elbert, Sophia and AudriaToday, the children had time to watch and follow Van Gogh's sunflower work, appreciate the famous painting, and explore and experience the composition, brushstrokes, and color selection used in the painting. Above all, the best material for children is Van Gogh's Sunflowers. This is because Gogh's paintings express the sensibility and feeling of the painting enough without the proper size and perfect detail that fills the screen rather than small and detailed descriptions, so children do not have difficulty in following them. In addition, Van Gogh's primary color beauty, which was mainly influenced by the Japanese ukiyo-e style, conveys the beauty of perfect colors that start from simple and bright colors, helping children observe how to create beautiful color combinations with only basic primary colors. gives In this sense, below is a work that Elbert selected and copied from Van Gogh's sunflower on the left. He especially modified one of the background and sunflower flowers to complete the sunflower with his own color. The sensibility that Elbert felt from Van Gogh's sunflowers seems to be the petals of sunflowers that seem to be blown by the wind. If you look closely, the petals seem to move like a waving national flag. Below is a painting by Sophia selected from Van Gogh's Sunflowers (right). She created her own colors by mixing red ink and watercolor to complete her gorgeous sunflowers. And below is a picture of Audria completing the seascape last week. Audria just turned 6 years old. The landscapes of the sea and clouds in her paintings are truly stunning. Children are much freer than adults and draw their own world with bold, rich colors and brush strokes. As you learn to draw each week, they change at an astounding rate. And he always draws new pictures by finding his own color and composition. Children are truly great artists. Look at nature, work independently, and solve your own problems. by Winslow Homer. Winslow Homer was born in 1836 in Boston, Massachusetts. He became interested in painting under the influence of his mother, who was an amateur watercolorist, and showed his talent for art early on. Homer began working as a freelance illustrator for Harper's Weekly in 1857 and remained active in this field for nearly 20 years. However, with his ambitions as a professional painter, he took evening lectures at the National Academy of Design in the United States, and he also learned painting from a painter named Frederic Rondel. When the Civil War broke out in 1861, he went to the front as a correspondent for Harper's Weekly and recorded battle scenes and the daily lives of Union soldiers in realism. His decisive work that brought Homer to the attention of the art world is 《Prisoners from the Front》 (1866). Based on the experience of the Civil War, this work was painted in oil, but like his other illustrations, it was highly praised for its restrained and bold composition that excluded sentimentality. This work was selected to be exhibited in the United States at the 1867 World's Fair held in Paris. With this as an opportunity, Homer, who went on a trip to Paris, came into contact with the works of modern French painters including Manet and Japanese prints. In the 1870s, Homer painted watercolors exploring the effect of bright, transparent paints. At the time, watercolors were recognized as just a preparatory painting by painters, but Homer was the first artist to exhibit watercolors as a finished work, and watercolors emerged as a major medium of art. He portrayed American life, especially the world of childhood, in a natural and realistic way. And for this, he moved away from city life to a remote coastal area where he could work in peace, painting outdoor landscapes. Indeed, when observing the works of master painters, there is often a fascinating paradox between the apparent ease of their brushstrokes and the profound depth and weight conveyed in their paintings. Masters possess a remarkable ability to create seemingly effortless compositions that captivate and resonate with viewers.
The ease and fluidity apparent in the brushstrokes of masterpieces can be attributed to the years of dedicated practice and honing of their craft. Through countless hours of study, experimentation, and refinement, these artists have developed exceptional technical skills and a deep understanding of their chosen medium. Their mastery allows them to execute complex techniques with apparent simplicity. However, behind the seemingly effortless strokes lies a profound level of thought, intention, and emotional depth. Masters possess an innate ability to distill their artistic vision into powerful visual statements, conveying a wealth of meaning and emotion in their work. Their paintings often carry multiple layers of symbolism, narrative, and personal expression, which contribute to their weight and resonance. The impact of a masterpiece goes beyond technical mastery and aesthetic appeal. It lies in the ability of the artist to communicate on a deeper level, eliciting a range of emotions and provoking contemplation in the viewer. The mastery of these artists enables them to create works that transcend the physical materials and strokes on the canvas, inviting us to delve into the intricacies of the human experience. When we stand before a masterpiece, we are in awe not only of the technical prowess but also of the profound effect it has on us. The combination of apparent ease and immense depth is what makes these works so captivating and awe-inspiring. They remind us of the power of art to evoke emotions, tell stories, and explore the complexities of the human condition. |
