How to check the exact number of posts on your blog – Using Google Search Console and Sitemap

​As a blogger, there comes a moment when you wonder, “How many blog posts have I published so far?” Especially after years of steady blogging, the number grows quickly, and manually counting them becomes unrealistic. I recently had this question myself—and luckily, I discovered a simple and effective way to find the answer using Google Search Console and my sitemap file.

How to Count Blog Posts Using Sitemap and Google Search Console especially for Weebly users!

1. Submitting Your Sitemap to Google Search Console

If you’ve already submitted your sitemap to Google Search Console, Google periodically crawls and indexes all the pages listed in it. For my website, created using Weebly, the sitemap URL is:

​This is a standard, public-facing URL format used by most websites. It’s not private or hidden, and it’s meant to help search engines understand your site structure.

2. Finding the Number of Blog Posts in the Sitemap

Once you open the sitemap URL in a web browser, you’ll see an XML document—a structured list of all your indexed web pages. Though it may look unfamiliar at first glance, it’s surprisingly easy to scan for blog post URLs:

1. Go to https://www.annakoh.com/sitemap.xml
2. Press Ctrl + F (or Command + F on Mac) to open the browser’s search function
3. Type blog in the search field

You’ll see a number pop up—like “1 of 1,644”—which tells you that the word “blog” appears 1,644 times in the sitemap. On Weebly, most blog post URLs include the word blog, so this number closely reflects the total number of posts you’ve published.

3. Why This Is HelpfulThis method is incredibly useful for situations such as:

• Tracking your total number of blog posts
• Measuring progress toward a goal (like reaching 1,500 posts)
• Preparing data for reports, milestones, or portfolio documentation
