Three Watercolors Submitted to Mills Pond Gallery's “Nature’s Palette” Open CallThis summer, I submitted three of my watercolor paintings to the open call for Nature’s Palette, an upcoming exhibition hosted by Mills Pond Gallery. The theme celebrates the beauty and diversity of the natural world, and I felt compelled to share my perspective through these recent works. Each piece captures a different mood and moment from nature, painted with the soft, layered transparency that only watercolor allows: Where the Ducks Gather This painting captures a quiet moment by a pond, where ducks gently gather and float on the still water. The reflections, ripples, and subtle tones were created to evoke a sense of calm and togetherness found in simple, overlooked scenes from nature. Golden Hour on the Tidal Flats Set during sunset, this painting depicts wind turbines silhouetted against a golden sky, with people wandering across the shimmering tidal flats. The image is meant to convey the fleeting beauty of golden hour, when the world seems to pause in quiet awe. Landscape with Red House and Pine Tree This serene composition features a red brick house nestled beside a tall pine tree, surrounded by the soft glow of filtered sunlight. It is a peaceful and timeless countryside view, meant to stir feelings of nostalgia and warmth. Submitting to this exhibition has been a meaningful experience, giving me an opportunity to reflect on the ways we relate to natural spaces and how art can help us preserve their presence in our lives.
