The Meaning Behind Creating My Student Calendar Each YearI have finally completed this year’s student calendar, and every time I finish this project, I feel a deep sense of fulfillment. Gathering all the artworks that my students created throughout the year and organizing them into one collection is more than just a design task. It allows me to look closely at how each student has grown, what they struggled with, and what they discovered. For this reason, the calendar becomes not only meaningful for the students but also a valuable portfolio for me as an educator. A reflective look at creating my annual student art calendar—celebrating year-long growth, dedicated practice, and the shared commitment of students and parents in art education. I never throw these calendars away. I keep them hanging in my studio for the entire year, and afterward, I store them carefully. They are records of my teaching philosophy and the students’ dedication—a history of our shared journey in art education.
Learning art over a long period is never easy. Students must train their eyes to see what is not immediately visible, develop patience, and practice repeatedly. It is natural to feel discouraged when progress appears slow. But through many years of teaching, I have come to believe one thing firmly: consistent effort always bears fruit. Students who remain steady in their practice eventually reach a moment where their growth becomes unmistakable. This transformation does not happen overnight. Witnessing these moments fills me with joy and gratitude as a teacher. Teaching in the United States has also shown me how deeply involved parents are in their children’s education. Students cannot attend after-school programs unless parents drive them back and forth, sometimes multiple times a week. Without this commitment of time and energy, none of these learning opportunities would be possible. Because I truly understand how precious this investment is, I always try to give my very best. My goal is not only to teach drawing techniques but also to help students grow, explore, and discover their own artistic voice. There were moments this year when I felt anxious, wondering if time was slipping away too quickly. Sometimes I wanted to teach one more thing or push students a little further. But I also know that students grow the most when they are learning joyfully. So I try to avoid pushing too hard and instead offer essential guidance within an atmosphere of freedom and curiosity. I want students to develop naturally, without losing their excitement for art. As I finish assembling our year into this calendar, I am filled with gratitude and quiet happiness. I am grateful to my students for their hard work, and equally grateful to the parents who continuously support them. Creating this calendar reminds me once again how meaningful this journey is. I hope that 2026 brings even more growth, accomplishments, and joyful news—for all of us. And I hope this calendar stands as a reminder of the beautiful progress we made together throughout the year.
