Summer Art class for exploring American Impressionism! My summer art classes are divided into two parts. The regular class is to study American Impressionism, and the camp is to create picture books. Creating a picture book is something I have decided to accomplish throughout my life, and I have created this as a template. However, the topics of regular classes change depending on what students want to explore. This topic is a study of American Impressionism. Among American impressionist painters, I especially like the painting styles of John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) and MARY CASATT (1844-1926). That's because their paintings have the power to draw everything in the world with just paper, brushes, and paints. I started exploring the benefits for myself and my students.
Painting should be comfortable. It must be highly accessible and joy and motivation must spring from within oneself without being conscious of external factors. You must constantly imagine, try boldly, attach value to the results, and continue to move to the next level. The painting style I am exploring this time is one that flows without stopping. It involves believing in yourself and trying to enjoy painting itself without getting frustrated. I thought that the two painters above would be able to convey the joy of painting to students. And today, one of my students, Oddria, drew a picture that accurately reflected the intention of this class. I especially love her sea colors. She now sees color and produces exactly the same color. And you can think about and explore the textures of clouds and sand. It's been well over a year since she started her painting with me. During this time I was able to discover how much she had jumped. When students jump to their stride and show accomplishments like this, I feel rewarded for teaching them. And I believe that this American Impressionism Exploration class will definitely help my students jump to a higher level. I, too, will continue this joyful exploration.
