St. James 5 Mile Challenge & 5K Fun Run/Walk – A Joyful and Energizing ExperienceI had the honor of participating as a community vendor in the St. James 5 Mile Challenge and 5K Fun Run/Walk, an event filled with energy, connection, and purpose. Hosted in support of Ronald McDonald House New York Metro and the Capital Campaign for the new Stony Brook Children's House, this event brought together passionate people from across our community. From the moment I set up my art booth, I could feel the positive energy flowing—runners, families, fellow artists, and organizers all coming together to support something meaningful. As an artist and educator, being part of a cause that uplifts children and strengthens local support systems is incredibly fulfilling. It was also so rewarding to connect with other amazing community members and organizations, many of whom I’ve since stayed in touch with online. Events like this are reminders of how powerful art and community engagement can be when they come together. I'm deeply grateful to have been a part of it—and I look forward to many more moments like this in the future! #CommunityEngagement #StJamesChallenge #RonaldMcDonaldHouse #ArtAndCommunity #Gratitude #LocalEvents #MyungjaAnnaKoh #TeamTeachers #CelebrateStJames Artist Myungja Anna Koh shares her experience participating in the St. James 5K Fun Run and 5 Mile Challenge, celebrating community connection, positive energy, and meaningful local engagement through art. One of the most important parts of my life—alongside my work, education, and creative career—is my ongoing concern for children in need, especially those facing medical challenges.
This comes from a deeply personal place: when my eldest child was born, we went through a very difficult time, including several major surgeries. Thanks to the care of dedicated medical professionals and the support of people around us, my child has grown up healthy and strong. That experience left me with a heart full of gratitude—and a lasting desire to give back. Every time I see my child thrive, I remember how much we were given. I feel called to help others in return, in whatever ways I can. I'm especially thankful for opportunities like this one, where I can contribute—however small—to causes that support children and families. These moments remind me why community matters, and how healing often begins with kindness. Comments are closed.
