SchoolNova 2025 End-of-Year Art Exhibition – A Celebration of Creativity Unfolds TomorrowTomorrow, May 18th, the Simons Center at Stony Brook University will come alive with imagination, dedication, and the creative spirit of SchoolNova students. The 2025 End-of-Year Art Exhibition will showcase the artistic achievements of students across a wide range of ages, reflecting months of effort, exploration, and personal growth. This exhibition is more than a display of final products—it is a visual narrative of each student’s journey through curiosity, craftsmanship, and expression. The variety of media and subjects reflects the freedom and encouragement students received to develop their own artistic voice. 1. Classical Drawing Section – Quiet Focus and PrecisionUnder the central staircase, a refined collection of graphite drawings will be displayed. Featuring portrait and plaster cast studies, this section highlights the observation skills and technical discipline of middle and high school students. Through careful use of light, proportion, and structure, these works create a focused, atelier-like atmosphere that honors classical foundations in art. 2. Knitting Activity Station A Gentle Welcome for BeginnersA hands-on knitting area titled “Beginner-Friendly Knitting Support Board” will invite visitors to engage with fiber arts. This station was designed to empower students to learn basic handcraft techniques while building patience and coordination. Clear instructions, colorful yarns, and child-sized tools will make the experience approachable for all ages and skill levels. 3. East Asian-Inspired Art – Tradition Meets Imagination A standout feature of this year’s show will be the collection of East Asian-inspired art, including hand-painted paper fans, scrolls, and parasols. These works celebrate traditional forms while incorporating each student’s personal style and creativity. From vibrant brushstrokes to delicate ink details, these pieces reflect both cultural appreciation and expressive experimentation. 4. Mixed Media and Sculpture – Explorations in Texture and Form Throughout the space, various 2D and 3D works will be exhibited, including character sculptures, collages, and painting hybrids. Students experimented with materials such as paper, clay, and found objects to create bold, imaginative forms. These projects show how students pushed beyond flat surfaces to explore dimension and visual storytelling. 5. Thread and Paper – Textile Drawing and Sensory Craft Works made with embroidery thread on dark paper will offer a rich visual experience. Coiled snails, abstract swirls, and flowers stitched in bright thread will demonstrate how young artists used line and texture to express rhythm and movement. These tactile pieces offer a unique approach to drawing, combining visual design with fine motor practice. 6. Miniature Gallery Project – A Tiny World of Thoughtful Detail Another anticipated highlight will be the miniature art gallery installations. Students created small-scale exhibition rooms complete with framed art, tiny furniture, and walking figures. With features like QR codes and LED lights, this project encouraged students to think like curators, combining visual design with storytelling and audience engagement. 7. Mask Display – Expressions of Fantasy and Identity A curtain wall covered in handmade masks will form a colorful and lively final touch to the exhibition. Decorated with feathers, glitter, paint, and ribbon, these masks showcase each student’s flair for theatrical design. They represent a playful exploration of self and transformation—perfect for ending the exhibition on a note of bold creativity. In Closing The 2025 SchoolNova Art Exhibition promises to be a vibrant, joyful celebration of artistic growth. Every artwork reflects the dedication and courage of a student who chose to express something from within.
