My statement as an art educatorI am a Korean-American artist residing and working in Stony Brook, Long Island, New York. Since making my debut in Karlsruhe, Germany in 2011, I have taken part in over 70 exhibitions in the United States, Germany, France, and other countries, both as a solo artist and part of a group. I have been honored with awards from various international and domestic competitions. My primary focus is on capturing and expressing the unique energy within objects, drawing from my inner inspiration. My main artistic mediums are acrylic, watercolor, and digital art.
After relocating to the United States in 2013, I have been dedicated to teaching children with a strong sense of purpose in arts education. In 2023, I earned my master's degree in educational theater, storytelling, and art from Adelphi University. My studies, particularly in Nacy Mellon's 'Healing Storytelling', emphasized the significance of storytelling. Consequently, I continue to publish children's books and encourage students to create their own stories and illustrations by themselves. As an artist, I am currently a member of the Smithtown Art Council and the National Watercolor Society. I perceive art as being akin to nature, with a constant state of flux yet possessing an enduring continuity as a visible narrative. Guided by this philosophy, I aim to fathom the intuitive and primal message that Mother Nature imparts to humanity through my artwork, experiencing healing and transformation through the lens of art. In my role as an art educator, I strive to have my students experience the impact of art and progress into a broader world fueled by the creativity and drive that art bestows, fostering lifetime artists. This resonates with the teachings of my mentor, Maxine Greene, who said, "Part of teaching is helping people create themselves." I aim for my students to be prepared for an era where continuous innovation, ideation, and personal branding are imperative for survival. I hope they can recognize and develop their potential. Educators, in my opinion, are individuals who meticulously string together the pearls of potential possessed by students into meaningful jewels and serve as a vessels to preserve these jewels. I feel joyful and grateful to meet students who shine like jewels in this regard.
